A comfortable living room starts with the way people move through it. Instead of pushing every piece against a wall, build the seating around a clear conversation area and leave enough space for easy movement.
Start with the main seating
Place the sofa where it anchors the room, then add one or two lighter chairs. A rug can visually connect the pieces and make the layout feel intentional.
Keep the center useful
Choose a coffee table that leaves comfortable walking space around it. In smaller rooms, a round or nesting table can make circulation easier.
Use height and light
Mix low furniture with a tall plant, floor lamp or artwork. This draws the eye upward and keeps the room from feeling flat.
